Liverpool are playing very well, they’ve notched up 3 clean sheets in their last 4 games and played brilliantly at Porto. We however, are coming into the game on the back of a 2-0 win and we always seem to do better against the bigger teams. I think our set up against Liverpool will work well, any team that commits too many players forward can find themselves getting caught on the counter very easily by their lightening quick players.

General information

Stadium: Anfield, Liverpool

Capacity: 54,074

Address: Anfield Road, Liverpool, L4 0TH

Anfield is one of the most impressive grounds in the UK (personally my favourite after Upton Park). Not only is it huge, but it also has that old-school stadium feel with 4 squared stands rather than rounded ones like many modern stadia around the world. Their renovated stand which will be on your left is absolutely magnificent; you have to go to one of the very front rows to see the whole stand. Make sure you have a walk around the stadium before going in, with the memorial to the Hillsborough victims, as well a statue of Bill Shankly.

Travel

Train: The closest station to the ground is Kirkdale, which is under a mile away. However some may find it easier to go to Sandhills Railway Station as this has a bus service to just outside the stadium which runs a couple of hours before the game and 50 minutes after. Ask for a return to Anfield rather than Sandhills, as this will allow you to get on the bus.

The main railway station in Liverpool is Liverpool Lime Street which is about two miles from the stadium and mostly uphill on the way there (meaning downhill on the way back!). It’s advised to either go to one of the stations mentioned above or get a taxi from Lime Street. Also, the 17a, 17b, 17c and 26 bus goes outside the ground from Lime Street and costs £1.

Car: Follow the M62 until the end of the motorway and keep right to the A5058 ‘Ring Road North’ which is signposted ‘Football Stadia’. After about three miles, turn left at the lights into Utting Avenue, this is noticeable by the McDonald’s on the corner. Keep going for a mile then turn right when you see the Arkles pub for the ground. SAT NAV POSTCODE: L4 0TH

Parking: There is a fairly large car park in Stanley Park, but this is for permit holders only. Goodison Park offers car parking for £10, however that’s fairly pricey. The Dockers Club on the A580 costs £5 and then it’s a 15 minute walk to the ground. Most of the areas around Anfield are resident parking only, so make sure you’re parked legally before leaving your car somewhere to avoid a parking fine.

 Food and drink

The Arkles pub is most commonly used by away fans but it can get very crowded inside. It has a fish and chip shop located very nearby, just round the corner, called John’s Supper Bar. The Flat Iron is an alternative which is about 5 minutes’ walk away, however this is mostly used by Liverpool fans, but it does accept away fans and the home fans inside are quite friendly. To find this pub, head away from the ground on Anfield Road and it’s at the bottom of the road on the right hand side.

Inside the stadium, bottles of Carlsberg are available at £3.90 for a 500ml bottle. Also inside the stadium, the kiosk sells many pies including a Scouse pie (£3.50), potato and meat, potato and butter, cheese slices and sausage rolls (all £3.40).

Stay safe while supporting us and embrace the stadium while you’re there, it’s a very impressive one. Let’s hope we can come away from Liverpool with a good result!
