West Ham have undoubtedly strengthened in various positions this summer with the signings of goalkeepers Martin and Roberto, as well as attackers Fornals and new record-breaking man Haller. These signings are a sign of the intent from both the manager and the owners – but who else could join the Hammers in the 19/20 campaign?
Weak positions have been highlighted within the squad and most of them are in our defensive options, with our squad depth being the main problem. West Ham are one Declan Rice injury away from having no experienced defensive midfielder in the team which could cause a catastrophe in defence, which could create problems as no player is able to turn defence into attack quite like Declan.
A number of players in this position have appeared to be on Husillos’ and Pellegrini’s ‘checklist’ and, proven by our precipitous signings this summer, we are on course to acquire our top targets.  It may be an arduous task for the scouting team to fill the otherwise indispensable boots of Rice but it’s what we need if the worse is to happen and the England international picks up an injury.
There have been suggestions, both unorthodox and orthodox, appearing from various outlets ranging from the archetypal defensive midfielder such as Victor Wanyama to a more subverted option in someone like Nacho Monreal, who could play in this position in defence but could also join attacks with the forwards (and someone who is seen as a workhorse for Arsenal.)
We need someone who can play the same role as Rice, someone whose record can draw comparisons with West Ham’s young midfielder, and with Victor Wanyama not getting regular game time at Tottenham, he would be a suitable replacement if anything were to happen.
He would also come at a suitable wage, so let’s get it done!
