Jonathan Lee > A valiant effort in defeat which proved we really have a team that can fight, but also show quality. A lot of pride from watching us take on a team packed with superstars and the champions-in-waiting.

Randolph – 6 a late replacement for Fab and tweaked a recent thigh injury in second half but carried on, maybe could have come for ball on first goal otherwise not particularly busy which is testament to our defending;

Coufal – 9 another colossal shift at right (wing) back and vital role in build up to goal, dropping to his knees in despair at the final whistle tells you all you need to know about his character;

Dawson – 8.5 one awful pass was nearly costly but otherwise another steady performance against the best in the league, some impressive cross field passes;

Diop – 7 an odd game as did well in the main but also got caught flat footed for City’s opener when he should have attacked the ball and wasted a glorious headed chance to equalise deep into injury time;

Cresswell – 7.5 as of late ever so reliable and did the simple things well, clever headed clearance first half from a deep City cross with two blue shirts lurking behind him and did well not to deflect a dangerous De Bruyne cross into his own net second half;

Johnson – 6 torrid first half in which he regularly gave possession away when under no pressure, found Mahrez a tough challenge all game and unlikely to face a more difficult opponent this season;

Soucek – 7.5 played calmly and efficiently to set up countless break outs to relieve the defence, a couple of times looked every bit as good as the opposition;

Rice – 8 the lad doesn’t do bad performances, a huge reason why we stayed in the game essentially the whole 90 mins linking back to front;

Lingard – 7.5 always lively and an assist for our goal, he really does give us an extra edge when we go forward;

Fornals – 8.5 arguably one of his best games in a WHU shirt, pressed all over the pitch and some really good one and two touch passing, instrumental In build up to our goal;

Antonio – 7.5 took his goal well and unlucky with shot that hit outside of post, run himself into the ground for the team.

Subs:

Bowen (84 mins for Fornals) – 6 not enough time to impact the game but a couple of nice touches.

Benrahma (84 mins for Johnson) – 6 must be close to getting more minutes as these cameo appearances don’t give him much time to show what he can do, some neat footwork on the left wing late on but no time to make a true difference.
