The record books will show a 3-2 win and three points earned against a decent team but how much more can we take of seeing us take 3-0 leads then play backs to the wall style football!! Seven games to go, still fourth, and to not get into any sort of European football next season now would be hard to take. Newcastle away next week will not be a pushover but if we are to maintain our push we need to ensure we start putting in 90 minute performances rather than just 30 or 60 minutes !

Fabianski – 7 had a mixed game, early on was poor with his kicking distribution and second half spilling a relatively simple collection – but fully redeemed himself by making a crucial fingertip save as Ricardo broke through and also came off his line sharply to deny Vardy on a couple of occasions, maybe could have done better with the first goal but certainly no chance with the second;

Coufal – 8 another all action performance with very little making its way past him, clever assist for Lingard’s first – slightly blotched his copybook when cleverly bursting through first half but then overthinking what to do and laying off a poor pass when Fornals was in acres of space and in on goal;

Dawson – 7.5 back to somewhere near his best, putting his body on the line and marshalling the defence;

Diop – 8 responded well to a couple of recent indifferent performances, won some important headers and good vision to set up the attack for our second, unfortunate to see a headed goal disallowed for a marginal offside (but clearly the right decision);

Cresswell – 7 another solid outing and linked well down the left wing with Arthur, important press to win the ball back in the build up to our third, subbed in the 53rd minute with a muscle injury that could sideline him;

Arthur – 6.5 started well with a couple of decent runs down the left including a cross into the box that formed part of the build up to our first goal, but concentration and energy rather fell away in the second half with him being at fault for the opening away goal and arguably culpable for not closing down the cross for Leicester’s second;

Soucek – 7.5 initially was slow to distribute the ball but grew into the game, providing the assist for our third and winning several important headers second half most notably when defending as the first man at corners;

Noble – 7.5 a captain’s performance in his 400th game for us, worked his socks off in front of our defence and a vital block from Tielemans on the edge of our area second half but in which he suffered an arm injury ending his game in the 82nd minute;

Fornals – 8 currently one of the first names down on the teamsheet you would imagine, another performance where he covered every blade of grass and was pivotal in not allowing the away defence to bring the ball out from the back;

Lingard – 8.5 we are running out of superlatives, wonderful finish for his first and good support alongside Bowen to receive the pass for a simple tap in second, like Fornals worked ever so hard in making the press;

Bowen – 8.5 his best game for a while, well timed run and then lay-off for our second, neatly taken goal for our third and generally played the striker role well;

Subs:

Balbuena – 6.5 (53 mins for Cresswell) slotted calmly back into defence and made a couple of important late blocks, arguably culpable for not dealing with cross for Leicester’s late second although the nature of the deflection off Diop made it awkward to deal with;

Johnson – 6 (82 mins for Noble) much as he did at Wolves just added a bit of stability to our left wing although relationship with Arthur looked somewhat brittle in the dying minutes;

Benrahma – 5 (84 mins for Bowen) a curious substitution by Moyes given we were on the back foot by the time he came on (the pace and defensive guile of Fredericks may have been more sensible at that point), never really got involved.
