The club are currently in the midst of a busy fixture period with Christmas and the New Year now upon us. There is also the looming January transfer window, for which West Ham are expected to be busy, with our sights on a top 4 finish this season.

Our man-in-the-know ExWHUemployee has provided an update on the goings on at the club at present.

Injuries
Ben Johnson is ahead of schedule and there is a chance he will be in the squad to face Spurs in the Carabao Cup quarter final this week. Another who is ahead of schedule is Kurt Zouma, although no return date is set, the club have opted to go down the ‘natural’ recovery route with him, meaning he’ll avoid surgery.

Aaron Cresswell is very close to returning and like Johnson could be in the squad to face Spurs. Ryan Fredericks’ recovery from injury is also nearing an end as he is not far off a return to the first team.

Jesse Lingard
As previously reported by Ex many times, Lingard is a top target for Moyes and we will move early in the window for him. There is a lot of competition for him, namely Newcastle who could offer him a lucrative deal.

There is the prospect that he’ll opt to wait until the summer to make his move from Manchester United, as reported in the press, however West Ham will still make a move for him.

Deli Alli
Reports in the press have suggested that we are keen on Deli Alli, however this is not looking likely. He has very high wages and our relationship with Spurs makes it hugely doubtful.

A move to Newcastle is looking the more likely option for the midfielder in January.

Centre back
As reported by Ex in recent weeks, our top 3 defender targets are Nathan Ake, Nat Philips and James Tarkowski. At this stage the most likely options are Philips and Tarkowski as it’s looking like Newcastle will make an offer for Ake.

Jonathan David
There has been a lot of talk in the press and on social media in recent days of West Ham making a move for Lille striker Jonathan David. We are interested however this must be taken with a pinch of salt.

Other clubs also eyeing the Canadian, who is top scorer in Ligue 1, are Barcelona, Real Madrid, Liverpool and Arsenal. So a move to West Ham at this stage is unlikely.

Sven Botman
We have made an enquiry on Lille 21 year old centre back Sven Botman. As revealed previously we are very much looking at the French market as there are a number of clubs suffering financial difficulties.

Hlosek & Origi
At present, forwards Adam Hlozek of Sparta Prague and Divock Origi of Liverpool are currently our most likely striker options. Origi was turned down previously by David Moyes, however he may well have re-evaluated this assessment.

It is worth noting however that Liverpool are likely to be reluctant letting Origi leave in January, as both Mo Salah and Sadio Mane will be away for the Africa Cup of Nations.

Ex has also stated that Moyes and Rob Newman (Head of Recruitment) will present their final list of targets to the board in the next week or so. This is a big window for the club and the board are very much expected to invest.
