In the 2 years since David Moyes returned to the hot seat, we have witnessed a turn in fortunes in East London that not even the most cockney optimists would have foreseen.

From challenging in the top six to flourishing in Europe, West Ham are no longer the soft side full of overpaid has-beens of old. This is a team that is capable to compete and if any Hammers side is capable of landing silverware, it’s this one.

This view is certainly shared by Moyes, who knows what it would mean to us Irons fans to finally witness cup success, since we are now reaching the 42 year mark since our last major trophy win.

Trevor Brookings clumsy winner against Arsenal all those years goes down in infamy, it is still talked and chanted about today, and it’s high time some new history is written in the books.

Asked if he felt the time is now Moyes said: “It is time.”

“We have a team that could easily, given the right draw, given the right moment, challenge anyone for the FA Cup.

“But we have to get through the first tie — and it’s a tough tie. I have not seen much of Sir Trevor recently because of Covid but I’ve been at a couple of functions with him and had dinner with him a while back as well.

“I would like to have him around more often, seeing the players, I have said that with so many of the other former players, I’d love to get more of them in to say hello over time but Covid has made that really difficult.”

There is an added spice this season too with it being our captain Mark Nobles final as a player, with his retirement looming and the FA Cup final could, if we make it that far, being his final game.

“Mark is a big voice in the dressing-room. He is a leader.

“His development of Declan Rice and how he has looked to put an arm around him and look after Declan, and not only Declan but Ben Johnson and a few of the other young boys who have come through the academy.

“He’s a real West Ham boy and I can see Nobes still being around here in the future. The role is still to be decided but he is someone who has got leadership in his own way.

“I don’t know exactly if it will come on the coaching field but certainly around the club he is an inspiration.”

Our cup campaign commences today, with Leeds United heading to London Stadium. The West Ham Way is hosting a Pre-Match Event with Hammers legend Alvin Martin as special guest – which tickets are still available.

So if you are going to the game today it’s a perfect way to start the day, or maybe you’d rather stick around and watch on the TV with other fans. See link below to get your tickets now!
