Mark Noble will become Sporting Director at West Ham from January 2023, but there is somewhat confusion surrounding the role itself.

The former Hammers captain, who retired from playing on the final day of last season, will return to his boyhood club in a matter of months much to the delight of many West Ham fans.

The clubs announcement was one of pride by installing an Irons’ legend into the role to work alongside David Moyes and the Board in helping push on from the progression made over the last 2 seasons.

One aspect of the announcement though suggests that this position could be more part-time, with Noble set ‘to spend time working on a number of personal projects and business interests as he recommences his dedicated service to West Ham United in the new year.’

It remains to be seen if this will be feasible, as the description of the position by the club certainly suggests Mark will have enough to be keeping himself very busy once his takes up his new position.

The club stated that Mark will ‘work closely in support of manager David Moyes, as well as working with the Board of Directors, providing input, advice, and assistance across all aspects of the football operation. This will include Academy development, player recruitment, and player and staff wellbeing – with a particular focus on ensuring players both progressing through the ranks and new to the Club are nurtured in the West Ham United football philosophy and values.’

One thing that is certain is that Mark Noble will give his all in making a success of his new role within the club he adores. A lifelong West Ham fan working closely alongside the management and the board can only serve as a positive for all connected with the club.

Until then though the spotlight will very much be back on David Moyes when this season resumes next weekend, with West Ham looking to turn around a terrible start to the Premier League season when we face fellow strugglers Wolves at the London Stadium on Saturday afternoon.

The West Ham Way will be hosting a Pre-Match event prior to this match, with former Hammer James Collins, aka Ginger Pele, as special guest. Get your tickers HERE.
