West Ham will face Gent in the quarter final stage of the Europa Conference League, with the dream of lifting the trophy starting to become a real possibility for our Hammers.

David Moyes’ side swept aside AEK Larnaca in the last-16 round, with a comprehensive showing which saw West Ham beat the Cypriot side 6-0 over both legs to advance and become one of the favourites to lift the trophy in Prague in June.

It has been a stunning run of form for West Ham in the competition this season, with 10 wins from 10 – a stark contrast to the form demonstrated in the Premier League, however the shining light of this season has many fans now starting to dream with a route to the final looking achievable.

The draw yesterday confirmed that West Ham will play Gent in the quarter finals, with the 1st leg taking place in Belgium on Thursday 13th April and the return leg at London Stadium on the 20th – placing our Hammers against a side that are currently sitting 5th in the Belgian Pro League.

Should West Ham advance then the teams awaiting with be either Anderlecht, who our Irons beat twice in the Europa League group stages last season, or AZ Alkmaar.

The draw and form so far in the tournament has created a buzz in East London that despite it being a disappointing campaign so far domestically, that success can still be achieved on the European stage.

The West Ham Way Podcast host Dave Walker has admitted that the excitement is now building after what he sees as a favourable draw for Moyes’ side.

“It’s starting to get exciting now after what I see as a good draw in the quarter final,” exclaimed Walker following the draw.

“I’m buzzing to get back to Belgium, let’s hope we get the job done!”
