West Ham defender Thilo Kehrer has highlighted what he believes to be the key component for our Hammers to end this tough season on a high.

It has been a campaign so far with very little to be excited about, however the performance over league leaders Arsenal on Sunday has breathed life into all connected with the club as West Ham look to secure Premier League football for next season and land a European trophy in the final weeks of this season.

The showing over the Gunners was one that brought back memories of a couple of seasons back, with unity and determination that saw West Ham secure back-to-back European football qualifications – with many now hoping our Hammers can take forward as a catalyst for success to turn this campaign into a successful one.

Summer signing Kehrer, who was called upon late to partner Kurt Zouma in the heart of defence against Arsenal, put in an excellent display and has stated that our Hammers need to use the performance as a base of how perform going forward.

“From 20 minutes onwards, we were outstanding,” exclaimed the German international to the clubs Official Website. “The whole team were there and the fans were there. The energy was great and we had chances.

“We defended well and we won most of our duels. That is the key for us. We are happy with about 70 minutes of the game and the result.”

The former PSG defender also felt that despite the excellent performance and result, it could have been more. However, stressed that we are humble and will be positive and take that forward.

“We were dominating in the second half and we had more chances than them. We are happy with the result and the point, but we know we could have won. But we have to stay humble, analyse it, take this result and go forward.

“I’m happy to help the team with the assist but I think the more important thing for us is, no matter what, keep in the game. That counts for all of us in the team and now, for the rest of the season, we need to stick together and fight for each other. That’s the way to go.

“The fans were terrific and the attitude of the team, and the leadership from the players as well as the energy we showed, got us over the line.”
