There have been reports that West Ham could be set to strike a deal with Betway over the London Stadium naming rights, with ExWHUEmployee providing clarification.

Since our move to the former Olympic Stadium back in 2016, the subject of naming rights for the venue has been an ongoing contentious one, with frustrations from the club and stadium owners that a deal with sponsors has yet to be established.

Club vice-Chairman Karren Brady has been vocal in her and the clubs annoyance that a deal, which should be profitable for all parties, hasn’t been struck despite it being a task in hand for almost 7 years.

The LLDC last year publicly offered West Ham the opportunity to purchase the naming rights and to then take full charge of the process, however this was deemed by the club to be too costly and would hamper profit margin’s significantly.

In recent days however there have been reports circulating that Brady has seized on an opportunity to turn to Betway, the clubs current main sponsor, to take on the stadium naming rights following a recent call be the government and the Premier League to ban betting companies from being the main shirt sponsor of football clubs – which comes into effect in 2026.

However, reporting this week on The West Ham Way Podcast, ExWHUEmployee has stated that this news has been denied by the hierarchy at the club.

“I have spoken to well placed sources on this and it has been completely denied,” said our man-in-the-know. “West Ham do not have the rights to be striking any deals as this still sits with the LLDC.

“At this stage there has been no progress made on naming rights and for the foreseeable the ground will remain the London Stadium.”
