West Ham fell to another Premier League defeat at the hands of Brentford with an underwhelming display by many fringe players who failed to impress David Moyes.

It was a loss that always seemed on the cards with our Hammers clearly lacking with a lot of typical first team players rested with Moyes keeping one eye firmly on this Thursdays Europa Conference League Semi-Final 2nd leg against AZ Alkmaar in Holland.

Declan Rice, Jarrod Bowen, Lucas Paqueta, Kurt Zouma, Said Benrahma and Thilo Kehrer were all rested and on the bench while Michail Antonio was missing with a minor calf injury.

First half goals from Mbeumo and Wissa for the Bees proved to be decisive although West Ham will feel aggrieved once again by another poor VAR call to deny Danny Ings which could have swung the game in our Hammers favour, but the underwhelming display was one of frustration.

This was shared by ExWHUEmployee, who felt the players did not capitalise on the opportunity to impress the Hammers boss ahead of what could be a historic moment for our club.

Both Ex and his Podcast co-host Dave Walker gave their thoughts on another loss which means West Ham are still not mathematically safe although it is hoped this will be achieved this weekend when we host Leeds at London Stadium against former boss Sam Allardyce, which our Hammers could confirm their relegation from the top flight.

“I was disappointed with some of the fringe players yesterday,” said Ex. “I felt this was their chance to show why they should be in the team and that they have futures at the club and there appeared to be a lack of effort and quality from a number of them.

“Whilst I appreciate its hard to play in a team that hasn’t played before and has other fringe players who may be lacking match fitness – I still expected more. Of course yet another poor VAR decision does us again and had that goal be correctly allowed to stand I think we would have got back into it. All this aside, after tonight and hopefully a Leicester defeat we will be all but safe and all eyes now go on Thursdays crucial game.”

“Another poor performance,” added Walker. “We were overrun in midfield and defensively we just wasn’t good enough. That said with 9 changes made I’m happy to take that defeat on the chin because it’s all about getting the job done on Thursday now.”
