West Ham are looking to appoint a new Director of Football this summer, with our insider ExWHUEmployee providing an update on the situation.

As reported previously by Ex on The West Ham Way Patreon, the club hierarchy are not pleased with the return on the squad investments made over the past 12-months, with our Hammers spending circa £200m but have subsequently spent the entire domestic season at the wrong end of the Premier League table.

Although West Ham have fared well on the European stage so far, with another place in the Semi-Final stage, David Sullivan is now looking at making significant changes to the clubs transfer strategy going forward with a new Director of Football set to be hired following the end of this campaign.

Reporting this week on Patreon, Ex has revealed some names that could well take up the post, which cast major doubts over the long-term future of Rob Newman – who essentially lead the recruitment drive alongside David Moyes previously.

Ex has stated that Paul Mitchell, who currently works at Monaco and has a close relationship with Mark Noble, our clubs Sporting Director, with the pair seen watching games together across Europe. The West Ham Way have been told Mitchell has been looking at houses in the Essex area with his family, although this hasn’t been confirmed.

Another name mentioned is Michael Edwards who has made a good impression in the post at Liverpool, however Ex has stressed that there are many potential candidates.

With West Ham fully focused on lifting the Europa Conference League now that Premier League safety has been all-but achieved, it is early to state what the exact changes will be with our European position and managers future currently uncertain.
