Declan Rice has officially left West Ham after completing a British record transfer to Arsenal.

It was been a somewhat long drawn out affair, with talks over payment structure since acceptance of the offer rumbling on for a couple of weeks, but finally the saga has drawn to a close.

Declan began his time at the club at just the age of 14, having been picked up by our Hammers following his release from Chelsea.

Rice showed an instant desire and maturity to be a success at West Ham, his focus on improving so he could one day get his chance to showcase his qualities on this big stage.

Initially seen as a centre-back, Declan worked his way up to the first team and was given his debut at the age of 18 by Slaven Bilic against Burnley in the Premier League.

Since immersing himself at senior level, Rice never looked back, and has continued to grow and develop into one of the world biggest talents as a defensive midfielder.

His drive, commitment and such likeable personality provided the hallmarks of a leader amongst the players, and quite rightly he was made the captain last season following the retirement of club legend Mark Noble.

In his first season as captain, and sadly his last in the claret & blue, Rice lead West Ham to our first major trophy by lifting the Europa Conference League title in his final match, with a famous win over Fiorentina in Prague.

It was a fitting farewell for Rice, to join Bobby Moore and Billy Bonds as captains who lifted silverware for our wonderful club.

Declan’s departure is a painful one for all connected with West Ham, however the money received for our Academy graduate will provide the club with ammunition to push on this summer.

The West Ham Way wish Declan all the best in his future career and thank him for what he has given our club in his 10 years in East London.
