Emma Harries becomes West Ham Women’s team second signing so far this summer.
Harries 21, parted ways with her childhood club, Reading, after they were relegated from the WSL at the end of last season. Harries joined the Royals at only 8 years old and made her senior debut against the hammers in 2020.
In her debut season at Reading in 2021, she made 16 appearances, and from then on the forward became a key part of Kelly Chambers’ side, with 6 goals over 51 appearances in the WSL during her time there.
Aside from club football, Emma Harries has also been selected for every youth age group and was formerly vice captain of the U19s.
Harries spoke to whufc.com and explained how excited she was to get started at the east London club.
“It’s an amazing feeling to sign for West Ham United,” Harries added. “West Ham is a huge Club and I think it’s the perfect next step for me in terms of developing as a player.
“I’m only 21 and this next step is going to be important for me, and West Ham are a Club that are pushing youth development, and that’s something that I was really excited by.
“The appointment of Rehanne [Skinner] was also something that helped with my decision making. She is somebody that has worked in the younger age groups for England and I think she will be the perfect manager to play under. It’s going to hopefully be a really good season.
“I can’t wait to get out there with the girls and work hard to prepare for the new campaign and I’m excited to meet all of the West Ham United fans.”
Newly appointed manager Rehanne Skinner also spoke to the clubs official website expressing her feelings on the new signing :
“I am delighted to welcome Emma to West Ham United.
“Emma is an exciting talent with a hardworking attitude and a willingness to defend from the front. She can play anywhere across the front line, is tenacious and has the ability to create and score goals.
“Emma is still a relatively young player who I think has a lot of potential and I have no doubt she will add huge value to our squad.
“I look forward to working with Emma and helping her to flourish in Claret & Blue.”
Everyone at The West Ham Way welcomes Emma Harries and wishes her all the success at the club this season.
