Sky Bet has launched its 2023/24 Fan Hope Survey, which reveals West Ham United fans’ hopes, views and predictions, ahead of the start of the new Premier League season.

The Sky Bet research suggests that bagging a European trophy isn’t enough for David Moyes to win over the fanbase as his approval rating of 76% is the fourth lowest of any Premier League boss.

Only Spurs (66%), Crystal Palace and Everton supporters (both 76%) are more sceptical that their manager is the right man to take their respective clubs forward.

A fan optimism score of 6.4 out of 10 (exactly matching the division average) and a predicted league position of 10th suggests an average season is on the horizon for the Hammers, but most fans are hopeful of adding to the Europa Conference League win with another piece of silverware next season (54%).

West Ham United fan 2023/24 pre-season key stats:

Fan optimism out of 10 (vs league average of 6.4) 6.4
Proportion of fans happy with the manager 76%
Proportion of fans hoping for a club takeover 56%
Predicted league finish position 10th
Proportion of fans predicting silverware 54%
Proportion of fans in favour of VAR 53%

The Fan Hope Survey also quizzed supporters on a range of topics, including which Premier League stadiums have the best and worst atmospheres – finding fans of other clubs are most likely to name the London Stadium as the venue with the poorest vibe.

West Ham’s home was highlighted for having the worst atmosphere by 13% of Premier League fans, ahead of Luton’s Kenilworth Road (10%) and Arsenal’s Emirates Stadium (8%).

A Sky Bet spokesperson said: “A relegation scrap and European title meant last season was about as mixed as it gets for the Hammers, and that’s been reflected in the hopes and views of West Ham fans ahead of the new campaign.

“It’s clear that supporters of other clubs don’t seem to rate the London Stadium though, so fans will need to get behind the team and up the volume next season if they want to shake the reputation of having a poor atmosphere. Hopefully then, fans will have something to cheer about!”
