West Ham are at risk of seeing another move for a key target this summer being hijacked, according to reports.
Our Hammers have held a strong interest in James Ward-Prowse all summer, with David Moyes identifying the Southampton captain as his main target in what has been a thus-far frustrating transfer window.
The pressure is on the club now to deliver on bringing player in urgently, especially following a very poor performance in our final pre-season fixture against Bayer Leverkusen, in which West Ham were hammered 4-0.
Ward-Prowse on the other hand sent a stark reminder of what he can offer our Hammers, with an excellent display in the Saints’ opening day victory over Sheffield Wednesday in the Championship, with the midfielder assisting the late winner.
West Ham have widely been regarded as Ward-Prowse’s likely destination this summer, but once again our clubs difficulty in completing a deal has come into play, with the player still seemingly no closer to signing despite weeks of talks.
It has now been reported by the Daily Star that our Hammers could once again see our efforts wasted, as a rival club looks to hijack the move.
Spurs are now reported to be looking to make a swoop for Ward-Prowse, thus making it crucial that West Ham act if they are to secure the services of the England midfielder this summer.
“The Saints ace was watched by Spurs scouts several times at the end of last season,” stated Alex Wood in the article. “And with West Ham’s approach for the midfielder knocked back earlier this week, the north Londoners look set to show their cards.”
It has subsequently been reported by ExWHUEmployee that the player remains firmly on the clubs radar, with West Ham now expecting Southampton to lower their demands.
