West Ham claimed a stunning London derby victory over Chelsea to lift the club into 6th spot in the Premier League.

It was a match that saw new signing James Ward-Prowse in the starting 11, with the former Southampton captain making an instant impact.

Just 7 minutes in a wonderful Ward-Prowse corner met the head of Nayef Aguerd, who headed home to send the London stadium wild.

West Ham though struggled to build on the momentum as the visitors then got a hold of the game and looked threatening.

Just short of the half hour mark they were level, when Chukwuemeka fired in as our Hammers were reduced to desperate defending.

Chelsea could have been ahead just before the break when they were rewarded a penalty, but Areola guessed right for the Fernandez strike and saved to keep things level at half time.

The second half saw a much more aggressive and exciting energy from West Ham, with Chelsea struggling to contain the direct play as the stadium grew in confidence.

We were then ahead again on 53 minutes when Antonio produced a stunning fierce strike to give everyone belief that a victory could be realised.

Then on 67 minutes our Hammers were reduced to 10 men when Nayef Ageurd was shown a 2nd yellow card, to bring the nerves back that we’d need to hang on.

But West Ham responded to it well, with Ogbonna stepping in for Benrahma, and again looking more the side that would win the match.

Then in injury time we were rewarded the ultimate reward, when a penalty was given in the 95th minute which Lucas Paqueta fired home to seal all 3 points for our cockney boys.

“Wow! What a result,” exclaimed ExWHUEmployee after the game. “I thought we got the tactics spot on and even when it was 10 men the subs were correct.

“James Ward-Prowse showed his worth in first few minutes! Thought we defended brilliantly and pleased for Areola to make that save too.”
