West Ham kicked of our next European venture with a win, as ExWHUEmployee delights in the displays made by the summer arrivals.

Despite having to come from a goal behind, our Hammers were by far the deserved winners on the night against Backa Topola at the London Stadium, with David Moyes’ side dominating much of the proceedings.

The match saw the debut of Mavropanos, who put in a performance that will certainly have given the manager food for thought ahead of our trip to Liverpool on Sunday in the Premier League.

Ex, who was in attendance on Thursday night, felt that the error that lead to the visitors scoring prompted our Irons into life and become more ruthless – which in turn saw our Hammers net 3 quick goals to secure the points and go top of Group A.

“I thought we started off totally comfortable and were playing good football,” said our Podcast co-host and club insider.

“But then perhaps a little complacent, as shown by Ogbonna’s mistake! It was only then we started to play with conviction, and once more Ward Prowse came into his own with another two assists.”

Ex also highlighted the display made by 2 other new arrivals, Kudus and Mavropanos, who both put in shifts that will no doubt excite fans of what may lie ahead this season and beyond.

“It was great for Kudus to get on the score sheet and I thought he looked dangerous all night,” added Ex. “It also brilliant to finally see Mavropanosm and if debuts are anything to go by, I think he could become a real fans favourite!

“It was job done and a good three points.”
