West Ham had to settle for a point against Newcastle after what was a poor showing from the officials at London Stadium.
Although on reflection a draw maybe seen as good point against a in-form Champions League side this season, West Ham will feel aggrieved that key decisions in the match were one sided to leave a nasty taste in the mouth.
There were big calls for Newcastle’s Bruno to be shown a second yellow for a reckless challenge on Ward-Prowse – which the referee deemed only worthy of a foul.
Then the Magpies equaliser, which ultimately turned the tide of the game, came off the back of a shocking call to award Newcastle a free kick following a very fair challenge from Lucas Paqueta.
The West Ham Way Podcast hosts Dave Walker and ExWHUEmployee were both understandably annoyed with the officiating, although there is acknowledgment that a point wasn’t a bad result.
“I thought it was a really good performance against 12 men!” said Ex after the game.
“The ref didn’t give us anything and was continually giving them the 50/50s and whilst I haven’t seen a replay, I don’t think there should have been a free kick for their first goal.
“Kudus needs to start now because his impact has been so significant in every game he has played.”
“A decent result that saw some quality individual performances,” added Walker.
“Despite one of the worst refereeing I’ve seen in a long time, I’m content with a point against a strong side.”
