West Ham’s Head of Recruitment Rob Newman faces an uncertain future following the exit of a Senior Scout, it has been reported by ExWHUEmployee.
It has been a busy period of change over the last year at the club, on both the pitch but also significantly with the back room staff, following the key appointment of Tim Steidten as our Hammers’ new Technical Director.
The former Bayer Leverkusen Director headed to east London this year, with many top clubs eager to capture his services, so it was seen as a huge coup for the club to land Steidten, although it did immediately cast doubt on the future of Newman.
Newman joined as the clubs Head of Recruitment back in October 2021, having taken up the post at Premier League champions Manchester City prior to his move to West Ham.
ExWHUEmployee, speaking on The West Ham Way Podcast, has reported that Senior Scout Mick Doherty, who is a key ally to David Moyes having worked with the boss previously, is set to depart the club and join Italian side Atalanta – whom our former striker Gianluca Scamacca signed for in the summer.
Whilst providing the details of Doherty’s resignation, Ex also advised that this in-turn again raises questions over the long term future of Newman.
“I can confirm that Mick Doherty, who is a Senior Scout at the club, is set to depart for Italy and join Serie A side Atalanta, in what is likely to be a more senior position.
“Rob Newman is still with the club although his future is definitely uncertain. It would not be a surprise if he was next to depart the club, as Steidtens arrival reducing the power that Newman once held.”
Ex will be keeping fans up to date on the situation as it develops, on The West Ham Way Patreon.
