West Ham fell to a 4-1 loss to Aston Villa following a poor display which has been slammed by Podcast host Dave Walker.

It was a performance that not many had expected following what had been a positive start to the season, with 5th place up for grabs going into the contest at Villa Park.

However the display certainly did not reflect a side hungry for that spot, and were outplayed in every department against Unai Emery’s side, which needs West Ham to demonstrate character to respond to the defeat quickly.

Our Hammers face Olympiakos in the Europa League on Thursday night followed by Everton in the Premier League on Sunday, an opportunity David Moyes will need to demonstrate that Sunday against Villa was a blip and we can get our season back on track.

The loss was demoralising for West Ham, with individuals who are usually dependable, simply not performing at their usual level, which made life easy for Aston Villa as they claimed the 3 points comfortably in a game which should have been a huge challenge for them in truth.

Following the loss, our Podcast host Dave Walker did not hold back on his assessment of the defeat, understandably slamming the displays of some of the players.

“Villa are a good side and they’re in form, but that was p*** poor from us,” said a furious Walker.

“There were some terrible individual performances, and some really bad mistakes cost us.”

If West Ham are to be considered a side up for the challenge for European football again next season then the manager will need to work on making sure those types of performances are not repeated, as it demonstrated a serious gulf in quality and desire from another side looking hungry for success this season.
