West Ham manager David Moyes admits he expects to see an improvement in his side defensively when we face Burnley later today.
Our Hammers head to Turf Moor on the return of domestic football following the international break, with Moyes team gaining a valuable victory last time out against Nottingham Forest at the London Stadium.
The boss will be hoping to carry the momentum of that win into the game against Burnley – who are currently rooted to the bottom of the league, having lost all of their 6 home fixtures to date in the top flight, and Moyes will be hoping West Ham will continue that trend.
Moyes though admits he is disappointed with his side in their failings to keep out the goals so fat this season, and admits that an eagerness to play more open is somewhat playing a part in that issue. Although, he hopes that its something that will be addressed.
“We’re trying to play slightly more open and perhaps in turn that has caused us to concede more goals, which I’m really disappointed about,” Moyes told the press, as reported by the clubs Official Website.
“But that is the balance you have to find. You want to bring in more attacking players but without conceding more. It’s something we need to focus on and do a better job defensively.”
The Irons boss also acknowledges that the club are now set for a gruelling run of fixtures, with much to juggle both on the domestic front and the European stage – and a positive result against Burnley would certainly be a great way to set the tone for the weeks ahead.
“With the schedule we have coming up, it’s going to be a really difficult thing to manage. It’s difficult to answer how we will do it, and I wish someone would take a look at it because that might help us.
“We’re thrilled to be involved in European football and we want to challenge in the Premier League and try to have good runs in the cup competitions. If you want to do all that then it’s a punishing schedule. We’ll go with it, take every game as it comes, and do as well as we can.”
