James Ward-Prowse was ecstatic with his side’s resilience as they battled hard for a “deserved three points” against Tottenham.

Despite their ongoing injuries, Tottenham put in a first half performance that showed why they’re so dangerous to play against. A high line, quick passing and exceptional work rate – Spurs made it hard for the Hammers to find a foothold in the game, but football is a game of two halves.

The second half was Moyes’ style of play at its absolute best, every single player doing their bit to win the ball back and hitting the opposition on the counter and the man who completed the comeback, James Ward-Prowse, believes the game plan was completed almost flawlessly.

“It’s a good result and a good performance,” he told WHUFC.com. “A lot of pre-game preparation was around them and their qualities but we know what we’re about as a team. I think that epitomised what we’re about as a squad and as a Club.”

“We got back in the game in with a well worked goal, a really important one, and we dug deep and got a deserved three points.”

“The manager wanted us to be hard to beat. I don’t think we played too badly in the first half. We had to be clinical on the counter attack, and we certainly were.”

The midfielder has been on fire since joining from Southampton and out in an excellent shift against Spurs, but he was keen to praise teammate Jarrod Bowen for his effort in helping get West Ham back into the game.

“I think it says a lot about Jarrod as a player,” Ward-Prowse stated, “his personality and his work-rate. People don’t see the work he does off the ball. He leads the line very well and he’s deserving of his goals at the moment.”

Following Bowen’s leveler, in which two deflections of Tottenham players gifted the ball to his feet, Ward-Prowse almost squandered a golden opportunity to put his side ahead in the London Derby as the ball struck the post. Fortunately, it landed straight in front of him where he made no error at putting the ball in the empty Spurs net.

“I’ve never scored a goal like that before,”he exclaimed. “To be honest, I was more concerned with not hitting Jarrod! But thankfully it went in and sometimes you get that luck, and it went in for us.”

He continued on, explaining that “it was fantastic” to score the winner in his first match against Tottenham since signing for the club Claret and Blue, adding that he “took a moment when we were all with the fans to take it all in.”

“Winning games like this is a sign of where the Club is. That momentum has carried on from the European success last season and it’s fantastic to be a part of. We’re in a really good position right now and now it’s about following this result up with another one.”

Ward-Prowse is already delivering everything and more that fans would have wanted from him. He is the exact player that the manager needed in midfield following the departure of Declan Rice; he will be absolutely crucial to the Hammers this year.

Six games unbeaten in all competitions, three points off the potential fifth Champions League spot and still in Europe as well as the Carabao cup. However you look at it, there is no denying that this season has potential to be just as memorable as the last three. Some fans may not like the football on display under David Moyes yet they certainly like the end result.
