West Ham are expected to have a busy January transfer window, bringing in multiple players while offloading others, according to reports.
A few years ago, West Ham fans would have been delighted with how this season is going so far. Pushing for Europe and still in all cup competitions, it’s really been a great start to the campaign, on paper at least. However, given their success over the past few years, just pushing for Europe is not enough as fans have started to get used to those special European nights.
To help achieve a fourth consecutive season of European football, the Hammers are looking to strengthen their squad by bringing in multiple new faces as well as getting rid of some fringe players in the January transfer window, Football Insider report.
As our own ExWHUEmployee has confirmed, the main priority is to bring in a striker next month. Names like Guirassy, Timo Werner and Solanke are all rumoured to be on the East London side’s radar and many more will be being discussed internally.
Concerns about the striker situation have been growing for a couple of seasons now and given the form of Michail Antonio and Danny Ings, it’s clear to see why they are desperate to finally find someone who can be a vocal point up top.
On top of this, as Ex has revealed, the club would like to sign a fullback to provide competition to either Coufal or Emerson. Depending on who departs, they could also look to sign an attacking midfielder or left winger.
Players such as Maxwell Cornet, Pablo Fornals, Ben Johnson, Danny Ings and even someone like Said Benrahma could all be considered if the right offer comes in for them. Thanks to a shoestring budget, some of these players simply have to depart before any permanent signings can be made as the board are said to be mindful of FFP rules.
It’s shaping up to be yet another interesting window for our Irons. Hopefully, we will be able to improve on our starting XI, lower the wage bill and have a more solid squad overall with backup that we can rely on when needed. This is also the first transfer window where we will truly see whether all this hype around Tim Steidten is really merited or whether fans jumped on the bandwagon a bit too soon, let’s hope it’s not the latter.
