Serhou Guirassy remains high on West Ham’s list of targets, despite interest from other clubs, according to reports.

A long persisting problem for West Ham is their lack of a natural striker who suits their system. It’s been an issue ever since the current owners took over the club. They’ve signed many strikers over the years but very few have scored the goals that the club had hoped for.

After Haller, Scamacca and Ings have all ultimately failed in Claret and Blue, David Moyes is hoping to solve his side’s striker issues once and for all in January.  Unfortunately, he will have to do so on a limited budget due to spending big over the last couple of years, our very own ExWHUEmployee has confirmed.

“I have spoken to the person who would be best placed to answer on our January transfer budget,” the insider stated. “We overspent in 2021 and we have to be careful to not ‘do an Everton’. So although there is money there in the pot, it isn’t a huge amount as the club are being understandably careful.”

One name that has been circling around is Stuttgart’s Serhou Guirassy, who’s scored 16 times in just 12 Bundesliga matches this campaign. The Guinean striker has been key to the German side’s success this season, and what makes him ideal for West Ham is that he is rumoured to have a release clause of just £15 million, TEAMtalk report.

A prolific goalscorer for that price in today’s market is unheard of, and journalist Frazer Gillan said that there is “zero expectation” from Stuttgart that he stays in January. While they would obviously want to get more for one of their star players, they are fortunate enough to have yet another decent goal scorer in Deniz Undav.

Much to the dismay of West Ham though, Manchester United are also said to be interested in acquiring Guirassy’s services in the coming window. Given the pull that the Red Devils have, Tim Steidten may have to work his magic in selling the project that the Irons are building to pull off the signing.

There is no doubt that bringing in Guirassy could be monumental in West Ham’s hopes of getting European football once again but, given the competition for his signature, it will not be easy. However, the club should take confidence knowing that they have managed to attract the likes of Paqueta and Kudus in recent times, in spite of interest from ‘bigger’ clubs like Chelsea and Liverpool.

If Guirassy is the man that Moyes decides to go with, then getting pen to paper as quickly as possible must be the priority. It would be a real statement signing and one that may give those fans who feel like the Hammers have lost ambition hope once again.
