West Ham have made “first contact” for a Champions League winning striker, according to reports.

Over recent years, West Ham have had their fair share of unsuccessful strikers. It seems like no matter how good a goalscorer they were before joining the club, players just aren’t able to produce in Claret and Blue.

The Hammer’s hunt for a new No.9 will, hopefully, come to an end as they create a shortlist which has some high profile players on it to enquire about in January. Someone like Stuttgart’s Guirassy would be ideal for them; brilliant and cheap. However, someone like Timo Werner, who is said to be available for a loan, would also fit West Ham’s needs despite being a very different player.

According to Fussball Transfers, there seems to be little in the way of the East London club signing the former Chelsea striker, except maybe dealing with his agent.

During his first stint for RB Leipzig, the German was unbelievable, scoring goals for fun and this led to him joining Chelsea for around £50 million. Unfortunately, his time in the West End was largely unsuccessful and he became a bit of a joke in the football community. Despite this, his stats were actually fairly decent, managing 44 goal involvements in 89 games for the Blues.

Since returning to Germany, things have only gotten worse for Werner. He now struggles to get in the Leipzig starting XI and is on the verge of missing the 2024 Euros. Things need to change for him and fast.

Enter David Moyes, the man who has a knack for helping struggling players find their form again. If he is given a fair shot, Werner could be a top striker for West Ham. He’s got pace, good positioning and an eye for goal. While he struggles to stay on-side, he has all the makings of a brilliant centre forward.

An in-form Timo Werner could be exactly what our Irons need. Our counter-attacking football would suit someone with his profile perfectly and there is no better club for him to get a fresh start at.
