David Moyes was full of praise for his side’s flexibility and finishing against Wolves, but he still believes that they can go up another level.

After a disappointing result away to Fulham, West Ham have bounced back with two back-to-back wins at the London Stadium. Their 2-0 win against Freiburg showed how dominant they can be, and following it up with a 3-0 win against Wolves just shows that the Hammers were desperate to put things right.

There have been multiple occasions this season where a difficult midweek game has led to the Hammers not performing at the weekend, fortunately for David Moyes his players were well up to the task this time around.

“It was a great first half performance. especially in the way we got after Wolves early,” he told WHUFC.com. “We’ve not often been able to do it after Thursday night games, which is something we’ve talked about a bit, and I thought we were more aggressive with everything we did in the first part of the game. It led to a couple of really good goals.”

In a game where everyone was putting in a good shift, the Scotsman simply had to highlight the brilliance of his three attacking players who Wolves just could not contain. “They were really difficult finishes,” Moyes acknowledged, “and they were brilliantly done by Mohammed Kudus and Jarrod Bowen. Lucas Paquetá got three assists today as well. The players we put in to give us the attacking threat really performed today.”

“We got two really good shots of from Mo, and Jarrod’s was a really good finish as well. The forward boys today produced. It’s great that the players are all flexible, willing to try different things, and we’re getting good wins.”

Despite it being a fairly comfortable win for the home side, the veteran manager was pleased with how his side coped in the period where Wolves were piling on the pressure.

“We’d lost a little bit of impetus in the game and Wolves played much better in the second half. It was a little rocky for a while, 20 minutes in the second half, but we got through it and did okay.”

Fans have been delighted that the attacking players have really been allowed to show what they are made of in the last two games and it feels like a massive improvement from what we have been seeing for a number of months now. Surprisingly though, Moyes still believes that these players have more to give.

“We have to keep knocking at the door. I genuinely think that we can get better,” he explained. “I think we can get better defensively. I think we’re beginning to show that we’ve got an attacking outlet. We’re slightly different at the moment and we’re experiencing a bit of a changing of the guard in some places. But we’re getting goals from all areas.”

Unfortunately, there is no let up in the Irons hectic schedule as they travel to Liverpool on Wednesday for their Carabao Cup quarter-final, before heading back to London for Premier League games against Manchester United and Arsenal. West Ham have certainly found the right time to hit form but they will need to improve even further if they are to finish 2023 off in style.
