Reports have emerged claiming that West Ham have put a crucial player from their starting XI up for sale ahead of the January transfer window.
West Ham’s recruitment has been pretty spectacular in recent years. They have successfully moved out some dead wood and also brought in some top quality players. The large majority of incomings have been successful, but the process of upgrading the squad is still ongoing.
Shockingly though, a report from Football Insider has stated that the club have put one of their key players up for sale and, if true, it is a decision that will leave fans baffled.
Despite some shaky performances towards the start of this season, Nayef Aguerd has been a brilliant addition to the Hammers’ squad. The Rennes defender has started the large majority of games this campaign, and understandably so. His pace and passing offer a unique skill set compared to the other centre-back options.
While the club are in desperate need to raise transfer funds, it is thought they would do so by selling fringe players. It seems bizarre that they would even consider selling such an important player. Afterall, they are in a position now where they want to strengthen their squad and have no financial need to weaken it.
If he is to go, the Irons are expected to demand £30 million for the Moroccan. However, given that their priorities in the coming window are a striker and left-back, it is hard to imagine them wanting to create the need for a central defender.
Of course, if the right offer came in for him then maybe the board would consider selling him, but putting him on the transfer list would be an absolutely bewildering decision. Aguerd seems happy in East London, he has a brilliant relationship with the squad so it is unlikely he has asked for a move.
