West Ham could make a shock move for an outcast from heated rivals Tottenham Hotspur, according to reports.
With Thilo Kehrer looking like he could be departing for Monaco this January, and rumours that Nayef Aguerd could be on the way out, it should come as no surprise that West Ham are considering signing a central defender.
Surprisingly though, this has apparently left them considering a move for Tottenham Hotspur defender Eric Dier, that is according to Football Transfers.
The 29 year old has become an outcast under Ange Postecoglou after spending the majority of his career in North London. When he has played, it has been due to Tottenham’s ongoing injury crisis.
Spurs fans have been on his case for quite a while now and, given the level they want to be at, he simply has not been good enough.
So, it is understandable that the East London faithful have been left bewildered by the links. However there are some positives to the Englishman. For example, he offers some versatility, being able to play in defence and midfield, which helps with Moyes’ depth issue.
Fortunately for those that are doubtful about the potential signing may not need to worry. It is said that Dier is keen to return back to Portugal where he started his career.
More importantly though, neither West Ham or Tottenham are particularly fond of doing business with each other. There’s the obvious rivalry between the two but this has not stopped business being done in the past. For whatever reason, it does not seem like the owners get along all that well.
For now, it appears unlikely that anything is to come from this. He may be cheap given his expiring contract, but it wouldn’t be a very good look for West Ham signing their rivals deadwood.
