The West Ham Way Podcast duo Dave Walker and ExWHUEmployee have paid a tribute to David Gold on the 1st anniversary of his passing.

Gold, who was the co-Chairman of the club having acquired the majority shares of his beloved Hammers back in 2010 along with David Sulliva, sadly passed away one year ago this week at the age of 86.

The businessman and lifelong West Ham fan, who as a young boy played for the club as he tried to make it as a professional, unfortunately did not see us lift the Europa Conference League trophy – our first in 43 years, something he would have been so proud to witness.

Our Podcast duo reflected on the anniversary of his sad passing this week, both finding it hard to believe its already been a year since we said goodbye to the Chairman.

“I can’t believe how much time flies,” said Walker. “Next month will be a year since my Dad passed away, it’s incredible.

“My thoughts are with the Gold family who lost DG a month before. I genuinely liked him. He achieved so much in life, was a lovely man and absolutely adored West Ham. God bless him.”

Ex shared Walkers sentiment on the occasion, and reflected on a time they both got to interview Gold for The West Ham Way.

“A year has passed since his passing and it’s such a shame that he never got to see us life the Conference League trophy,” said Ex. “He would have been as delighted as the rest of us.

“I’ll never forget the time he chose the West Ham way to do an interview for the fans on and he was such a gentleman with a quirky sense of humour. He was apparently a very popular man round the training ground and one of our own.”
