Former Tottenham Hotspur outcast named as “top target” for West Ham in the January transfer window.
While we got glimpses of it in the Summer, this window is where we finally get to see Tim Steidten work his magic. His time at Leverkusen speaks for itself, and the photos in his jet with new signings are starting to become iconic already.
We have already seen him secure both Edson Alvarez and Mohammed Kudus from Ajax but it looks like he could be going for the hat trick of players from the Dutch giants.
According to friend of The West Ham Way Fabrizio Romano, the Hammers have placed Steven Bergwijn at the very top of their list.
“Understand Steven Bergwijn is one of the top targets for West Ham in the January transfer window in case they will be able to find budget after outgoings,” he claimed on X.
“More PL and Saudi clubs are also keen on Bergwijn as he could leave Ajax in case of good proposal.”
Bergwijn is a brilliant option to have as he offers the versatility to play as a left winger or a striker. He did a decent job at Tottenham but he was never quite able to break into the starting XI. Most people will remember him for his late brace against Leicester, but he genuinely was a great player for Spurs when called upon. If it was not for the fact he had Kane and Son ahead of him, he likely would have got more minutes than he did.
However, if he is given the time to play consistently in the Premier League, his pace, skill and work rate could lead to him becoming a key player for David Moyes.
As everyone knows, West Ham will need to sell players in order to buy. Given that Benrahma, Cornet and Fornals are all players that the Irons would listen to offers for, a left winger could be necessary.
Being able to potentially solve their left wing and No.9 in one though could make the Dutchman a very tempting signing indeed.
