West Ham will have to cancel plans for a new year break following the draw with Bristol City in the FA Cup at the weekend.

The 1-1 result means our Hammers will need to travel to Bristol on a cold Tuesday night on January 16th – a trip David Moyes could certainly have done without, as we look to advance in the famous tournament.

It was a disappointing Sunday afternoon in east London following an excellent start to the game, in which West Ham started fast and fully deserved the 5th minute lead thanks to an excellent finish from the in-form Jarrod Bowen.

Unfortunately things took a nasty turn when Lucas Paqueta went off injured again, looking to be a reoccurance of the same injury which has kept him sidelined in recent days.

Then Mavropanos has to depart the game nursing an injury following some rough treatment from the visitors – and then the Champtionship side levelled to take the game into a replay, although it must be said it was fully deserved.

Our Podcast co-host and club insider ExWHUEmployee was understandably frustrated with the result, and feels that the performance highlighted the need to strengthen the squad in this January transfer window.

“A disappointing result and an extra game we really could have done without,” stated Ex after the game. “We had a number of chances to win the game but once more didn’t take our chances and therefore didn’t get the result.

“I think the game evidenced what we already knew and we need another forward in the squad.”

West Ham are expected to do some business in the new year, with Ex set to provide exclusive updates on The West Ham Way Patreon.
