West Ham want to sign a struggling Championship winger, but there could be complications in doing so.

One of many players that ExWHUEmployee revealed as a target over recent months is Leed’s Wilfried Gnonto. The Italian had shown moments of brilliance for the Yorkshire-based club last season, managing to score 2 goals and assist a further 4. Unfortunately, he has not been able to impress since their relegation, averaging a goal involvement every ten games.

Now, according to Sports Lens, Leeds may be willing to cash in on the youngster in fear that he will only decrease in value.

In the Summer, it was reported that they rejected an offer from Everton, yet they still remain interested. They bid around £25 million but it is believed now that £30 million would tempt Leeds.

Given his frankly appalling form this season, it seems like a lot to pay for someone that unproven. However, you do not get 4 senior caps for Italy at the age of 20 if there is not some sort of talent there.

What Gnonto may need is a manager like David Moyes, who is an expert in getting the best out of players. Fans get on his back about not integrating youth players enough but, in reality, he is just an extremely good judge of their capabilities – let us not forget this is the man that gave the world Wayne Rooney. If a player is good enough, he will give them a shot and it is unlikely he would pay £30 million for a prospect if he was not certain he could reach the desired levels.

Ultimately, it feels a little risky given that our Irons are on an extremely limited budget and desperately need someone to hit the ground running. The choice is down to Moyes but there are plenty of Championship players who may be more up to the task than Gnonto.
