West Ham could look to sign Chelsea’s Trevor Chalobah if Nayef Aguerd leaves this month, but there could be a major issue.

While there are plenty of areas in their squad that West Ham could improve upon or add depth to, their extremely limited budget means that they will not be able to buy without selling, unless they want to risk breaking FFP. Plenty of fringe players have been linked with a move away this January as David Moyes looks to raise transfer funds. However, our own ExWHUEmployee exclusively revealed that Nayef Aguerd (who normally starts for the Hammers) could be sold if the right offer comes in for him.

It seems like he has not fully convinced the Scotsman and, while there is no desperation to sell him, there is a possibility that he is no longer a West Ham player by the end of the window. In the event that he does depart this month, there are a number of centre-backs that they could sign.

Trevor Chalobah is just one potential replacement that Ex announced. The 24 year old has had his fair share of injury problems and has not played a single minute of football this season, resulting in Chelsea being eager to offload him.

Clearly, he ticks a lot of Moyes’ boxes when it comes to a central defender; he’s a staggering 6’4, homegrown and has Premier League experience. His distribution is also top notch which could make him the ideal replacement to Aguerd.

Unfortunately, it does not seem like it will be easy to secure a move. The Daily Mail reports that Fulham, Bayern Munich and Tottenham are interested in acquiring his services this month. Additionally, Chelsea are likely to demand an extortionate fee, though this is expected to be considerably lower than the £50 million they demanded in the Summer.

Our Irons are apparently not willing to sell Aguerd for anything less than the £30 million they paid for him, if that is the case then Chalobah might just be within their budget. It will be hard to convince him to join us over someone like Bayern Munich but, if he stays fit, then Moyes may have found a long-term first choice centre-back which we have been needing more and more.
