Nathan Trott has spoken on his future at West Ham and what “the next step” may look like.
West Ham are one of very few clubs who have two brilliant goalkeepers. Both Alphonse Areola and Lukasz Fabianski have been exceptional during their time at the club, making it extremely difficult for any other keepers to get a chance.
One keeper that has failed to get any sort of minutes for the Hammers is Nathan Trott. The 25 year old came through the academy and was said to be a hot prospect. Unfortunately, his many loan spells have never resulted in him even becoming a cup keeper. He is currently in his second year at Vejle BK and has been in good form, but the level he is playing at is much lower than in England.
However, the goalkeeper has stated that he does not plan on returning to the Danish side when his loan ends this Summer. “I think this season will be my last at Vejle. My focus is just to keep them up right now, and of course you never know what the future holds. But I think I’m ready for the next step now,” he confessed to Tipsbladet.
“I haven’t really thought about what will happen this summer yet. Of course, my loan agreement expires this summer, and my contract with West Ham also expires, but there is an option in my contract which gives West Ham the opportunity to extend the contract by two years.”
Recently, the Hammers extended Fabianski’s contract by another year, making it even more unlikely that Trott would feature. If he believes he is ready to become a first choice goalkeeper somewhere like he alludes to, then it is hard to imagine he will get an opportunity to do so in East London.
What will be interesting though is whether the board choose to activate the extension in his contract to either keep him as the third choice keeper or to sell, otherwise they will lose him on a free transfer.
