Fabrizio Romano has given an update on some potential West Ham transfers but claims “we have to wait”.
So far, it has been an extremely quiet January for West Ham, but that was always a possibility heading into the transfer window. Due to the club walking a tightrope with FFP, they have to sell before they can buy and, unfortunately, there have not been many departures yet. The only players that have left the club are Thilo Kehrer, who has gone on loan to Monaco, and Conor Coventry on a free transfer to Charlton.
Given that we are under two weeks away from deadline day, some fans are starting to suspect that there will not be any signings at all. Thankfully, this could all change quickly if Said Benrahma is sold. The Hammers hope to get a sizable fee for the Algerian and a number of clubs in England, as well as some abroad, are interested in acquiring his services.
Friend of The West Ham Way Fabrizio Romano has provided an interesting update about Benrahma and, what he believes, is his most likely move.
“Benrahma’s move to Lyon could happen if they offer the right amount of money and the player wants to go,” Fabrizio explained to GIVEMESPORT. “But it is not an easy situation for Lyon because the player is taking his time to decide whether to make the move.”
Shockingly, the French side have found themselves in a relegation battle. Although it is very tight and a couple of wins can propel them up to mid-table, it still is something that the winger has reservations about being involved in. In the event he does leave, there is one player in particular that the journalist thinks David Moyes will move for.
“If Benrahma leaves the club, Steven Bergwijn could be an option. There is a possibility that he will sign because he is a top target for West Ham,” he continued. “There are some candidates on the list, but we have to wait for outgoings at West Ham.”
His red card against Bristol City could be his send off to the West Ham fans. He never managed to perform the way everyone had hoped he would in claret and blue, but he will forever have his name carved into East London folklore for his penalty in Prague.
