Two wingers could be on their way out of West Ham this month if the right bid comes in.
Over the last few weeks, West Ham have been linked with a move for a number of left wingers. Jack Clarke, Steven Bergwijn, Willy Gnonto and Jonathan Rowe are just a handful of potential players that the Hammers could sign.
In order to fund this, it is expected that Said Benrahma could depart before the end of the window. The Algerian has failed to impress since joining back in 2020 and, in recent weeks, it has become increasingly clear that he is not part of David Moyes’ plans.
However, according to Football Insider, it is not just Benrahma who will be leaving East London this January, with Maxwell Cornet also being someone the Irons hope to offload. The winger has not had an easy ride since signing for West Ham, suffering from severe injuries and an overall lack of minutes. When he has played, it is clear he needs to build his match fitness after featuring so little over the last couple of seasons.
Due to being close to breaking Financial Fair Play regulations, West Ham will not be able to sign anyone without selling first. Even so, the club are hopeful of getting around £20 million for Benrahma alone.
Given his recent increase in playing time, it seems unlikely that David Moyes would be willing to let Cornet go though. The squad is already thin, losing two players in the same position to bring in one just doesn’t make sense. On top of this, the Ivorian’s goal against Sheffield United could be the start of his redemption in claret and blue – confidence can do wonders for a player.
Whatever happens, it is clear that the squad can be improved upon, but offloading both Benrahma and Cornet could be a step in the wrong direction.
