Tomas Soucek has revealed what the future may hold for him following the arrival of Kalvin Phillips.
Since signing from Slavia Prague back in 2020, Tomas Soucek has given his absolute everything to West Ham. He has put his body on the line so much that his face has actual scars from the injuries he has sustained.
Despite manager David Moyes clearly having a lot of trust in the Czech Republic captain, many have speculated that the arrival of Kalvin Phillips could see him become more of a squad player. Whether this is the case or not, it may have given Soucek something to think about regarding his future – would he rather be a rotation player at West Ham or a starter somewhere else.
Surprisingly, he has revealed on the V Repre podcast that he actually received a massive offer from Saudi Arabia, but the money does not interest him. “Already last summer I received an offer directly from Saudi Arabia,” Soucek stated. “But I immediately gave it away, it’s not my cup of coffee.”
“A lot of people told me that I was mad, but why? It’s not for me. Neither America nor China. I would rather return to the Czech league, where I would live with my family and friends. And if it was Slavia (Prague), the club that raised me, that would be a plus.”
It has to be said that this sort of mentality is becoming increasingly rare in the modern game – then again, in the best way possible, Soucek is no modern day player. He may not be the most talented player on the pitch, but no one will ever match his work ethic and it is admirable.
Even so, the No.28 was eager to explain that he is in no rush to leave West Ham anytime soon. “I am enjoying my time here at West Ham,” he confirmed.
Whether he starts or whether he comes off the bench, Soucek is a great player to have at your disposal. The arrival of Kalvin Phillips means that when he does play he will be free to attack more and do what he does best. It is just amazing to hear that he has no intention of leaving in favour of a big money move.
