David Moyes has fired back at his critics as a growing number of fans demand that he faces the sack.

It is a strange time to be a West Ham fan. You’re either trying to explain to those why the only manager in over 40 years to win a trophy for the club should be sacked, or you’re trying to argue against it. Either way, despite what fans on both sides of the arguments might tell you, both arguments are completely valid.

However, week after week the amount of fans who want David Moyes gone grows and he is under more pressure than ever to start getting results.

As usual, the Scotsman was eager to remind those who want a change exactly what he has done for the Hammers over the last few years. “I’m pretty long in the tooth, it happens and I don’t think you can please everybody,” he explained when asked about the “Moyes out” banners.

“I think it would be hard to say there have been many better times at West Ham. Maybe they want something different but if they’re honest I think they probably have to say it’s been as good a time as they’ve had at the club, winning a trophy and the league positions.”

“Maybe they’ve had managers who excite them more, possibly, but the one who’s sitting here wins more.”

Unsurprisingly, the last comment in particular has rattled some cages. While the Hammers recent success certainly does warrant him getting more time than most managers would, you can only ride that coattail for so long. When you’re winning games, no matter what their opinion is on the style of play, it is hard for fans to demand a manager face the sack. When you’re approaching March and you’re still without a win this year though, you do not have a leg to stand on when it comes to “winning more”.

Obviously, like anyone would, Moyes is fighting to keep his job and when you’re not succeeding in the present moment, you have no choice but to turn to the past.
