West Ham have been handed a massive injury boost ahead of their clash with Brentford, and it’s not just through the returning Paqueta!

Tonight, West Ham need a miracle against Brentford. Not only are they without a win in 2024 and sliding down the table but they are also winless against the Bees since they were promoted to the Premier League.

Fortunately, luck may finally be on their side as both team’s injury situations have given the Hammers a huge advantage over their London rivals.

Much of West Ham’s poor form this year has been down to missing players. Bowen, Antonio and Paqueta were all out injured for various amounts of times, while Aguerd and Kudus were both at AFCON in January. Luckily, most of these players have been back for a while now but the Brazilian is set to make his return tonight after proving fitness in a behind-closed-doors friendly.

However, although Paqueta being back is huge, Brentford’s own injury crisis is what has given the Hammers a boost, with a number of their key players being unavailable. According to Premier Injuries, both Rico Henry and Joshua Dasilva are out for the season, while Aaron Hickey, Kevin Schade, Ethan Pinnock and Bryan Mbeumo are all expected to be sidelined for at least a few weeks.

Obviously, taking this into account, you would have to say that the game is there for the taking. If West Ham perform the way they can, then there should be very few issues in securing all 3 points. The problem is that they have not shown up for two months now, with recent performances making teams at the bottom of the league looking miles better than they are.

Nothing less than a win will do for our Irons tonight. They have the opportunity to put themselves back in the race for Europe, going level on points with 7th place Brighton. Any other result would give Chelsea the chance to leapfrog them with their game in hand, pushing them into the bottom half of the table. If they’re going to change their fortunes in 2024 and against Brentford, it has to be done now.
