Neal Maupay has finally picked on the wrong person as Kevin Nolan gets the last laugh following their heated half-time argument.

There are many words that could be used to describe Neal Maupay but, above all else, he is a wind up merchant. That’s not necessarily a bad thing though as it goes beyond his personality, it is a key part of his game. Being able to get into opponent’s heads and rattling them has given him an edge on a number of occasions. Unfortunately for him, he chose the wrong person to start on in Brentford’s clash with West Ham.

Kevin Nolan is not the sort of man to back down from a fight, and it looked like things were going to get physical between the two of them. Both the player and the coach were physically held back as they were coming out of the tunnel for the second-half.

While there has been no official word on what actually happened between the two, Gary Neville claimed that there may have been some unprofessionalism from the Brentford striker. “We believe was outside the referees room [at half-time] and Nolan has taken offence to it,” he explained.

If that is the case then it is completely understandable why Nolan would be so angry with the Frenchman. The referee was far from unfair in his judgement over the course of the game and there was nothing obvious he could have wanted to complain about.

Fortunately, it was West Ham who emerged victorious from the match as they eased past Brentford winning 4-2 and securing their first win of 2024. Maupay may have walked away from the argument grinning, but it was Kevin Nolan who got the last laugh.
