A journalist has stated that he “wouldn’t be surprised” if West Ham attempted to pry Gary O’Neil away from Wolves.

Whether you believe that David Moyes is the right man for the job or not, there is no doubt that West Ham’s form in 2024 has been massively concerning. Fortunately, their start to the season was strong enough to keep them in the race for Europe and their 4-2 win against Brentford is hopefully a turning point in their season.

However, if things do not progress positively then there is a real possibility that this could be the end of Moyes’ historic time at the London Stadium. Following up on such a remarkable period is a tough task and, as a result, Tim Steidten and the board will have to be extremely careful that they get the appointment right.

Therefore, it should come as no surprise that someone like Gary O’Neil has been linked with the job. The former West Ham player did an excellent job keeping Bournemouth up last season and has gone up at level with Wolves. A lot of pundits had tipped him to be fighting relegation, instead the Wanderers are pushing for Europe.

While journalist Dean Jones does not believe he is their top target, he is someone he expects to be considered if Moyes does leave. “Now that Wolves are getting towards the stage where they are safe, I guess the fear isn’t over whether Gary O’Neil is good enough to be their manager,” he told GIVEMESPORT. “The fear might begin to be whether they are going to be able to keep hold of O’Neil now.”

“At the moment, we’re getting towards the stage where West Ham are going to be looking for a new manager. While Gary O’Neil isn’t going to be the top target for them, I have heard that he is somebody they like. I would be surprised if he didn’t at least crop up on a list of names if and when Moyes does end up losing his job, so that is one to keep in mind.”

“As soon as he starts getting linked to West Ham,” he concluded, “I think Wolves fans will suddenly love him even more and want him to stay.”

The way O’Neil has revolutionised not only the way Wolves play but the whole atmosphere at the club has been exceptional so it is clear to see why he would be considered. If he can do so well with their squad, just imagine what he could do with the likes of Paqueta, Kudus and Bowen.
