West Ham have reportedly lined up an exciting replacement if Lucas Paqueta leaves the club this Summer.
There is no doubt that Lucas Paqueta is a very special player. Unfortunately, with that in mind, keeping hold of him was always going to be incredibly difficult for West Ham. Many were left bewildered with how they even managed to sign him in the first place, but it was likely the addition of a release clause helped him make up his mind.
Thankfully, £85 million for a 28 year old is not the worst business in the world and would mean the Hammers get a hefty profit on their investment.
With it looking like Manchester City will activate the clause, West Ham have already being looking at potential replacements for their Brazilian Magnifico and that has led them to Pedro Goncalves, HITC reports.
The former Wolves man has got an outstanding 9 goals and 10 assists in 24 Liga Portugal matches this season, giving him a good chance to beat his 26 goal involvements from last term. He primarily plays on the left wing but has the ability to be used across the attack.
Understandably, Sporting Lisbon will be looking for a sizeable fee for the 25-year-old, with some reports stating that the figure could be as high as £70 million. Obviously that is an incredible amount for a player who previously failed to impress in the Premier League, but he has come leaps and bounds since then with him being arguably one of the best players outside of the top 5 leagues.
You would expect that there will be plenty of other players considered and, as usual, the East London side will decide who is the best value for money. However, they must not cheap out when it comes to replacing a player of Paqueta’s quality and if the recruitment team believe Goncalves is the man for the job then the club should do everything in their power to sign him.
