West Ham could once again make a move for Harry Maguire this Summer for considerably less than they had agreed last year.
Despite Mavropanos’ much improved form as of late, it is clear that West Ham need another centre-back to play alongside him. Kurt Zouma’s mobility issues, Angelo Ogbonna’s age and Nayef Aguerd’s inconsistency are all factors which have had a negative impact on their game.
The Hammers came close to signing another defender before the season started, but the £30 million deal for Manchester United’s Harry Maguire ultimately fell through. It seemed like neither the Red Devils nor the player really wanted the move but things may set to change in the Summer.
Erik Ten Hag has stripped the England international of his captaincy and used him as a scapegoat on a number of occasions, yet Maguire has still given his absolute all for the badge. In fact, he has improved drastically this season but, according to The Sun, the Hammers may now be able to acquire his services for just £15-20 million.
If this is the case, it would presumably be a deal that David Moyes would be all over. We all know how much his admires him and getting him for that price would represent significantly better value for money than the £30 million in addition to the £7 million pay out Maguire was demanding.
Some will see him being 31-year-olds as a red flag but that experience could be vital in solidifying the defence and, in today’s market, he would still be incredibly cheap for that price.
However, whether Maguire would be more open to moving to the London Stadium or not remains to be seen. He is still far from first choice at Old Trafford, but he has been playing more and has gained some trust back from the supporters – would he be willing to ditch that for more consistent football?
