Lucas Paqueta gives respectful response when asked about Manchester City links as well as David Moyes.
Very few players will ever receive a welcome like Lucas Paqueta did at West Ham, That roar when he first went to warm up on his debut was almost like a goal had been scored.
Since then, everything the man has done has oozed class and, as a result, he has attracted the attention of the elite clubs – particularly Manchester City. In fact, they wanted to sign him last Summer but an FA investigation into suspicious betting activity put this on hold.
As everyone expected, City are set to come back in for the midfielder but when asked about the rumours, he showed just how classy he can be off the pitch, this is what he had to say: “I have a lot of respect for my club, West Ham. I’ve been having a good season and that’s helped me in my development in the Premier League. Out of respect, I have to stay focused on my duty at West Ham and keep working.”
It is not just West Ham that he has respect for though, as he clearly has a special relationship with manager David Moyes (despite what some believe) and this was only reinforced by the Scotsman’s support during the previously mentioned scandal.
“My relationship with David Moyes is very good. We talked about this (betting scandal) – He wanted me on the team,” he explained. “Without a shadow of doubt, the support he gave me to leave all this behind, it was essential.”
No matter what happens, Paqueta will forever be a Hammer at heart and, much like fellow South American Carlos Tevez, nothing will change that.
