West Ham “won’t stand in the way” of Lucas Paqueta if he wishes to leave this Summer.

The impact that Lucas Paqueta has had on this West Ham side can not be understated. His passing, his skill and his dedication to winning the ball have all been pivotal to the Hammers over the past two seasons.

Unfortunately, his time in East London could very well be coming to an end due to Manchester City’s interest. According to Football Insider, an £80 million deal had been agreed before he was caught up in a betting scandal. The collapse of the deal is said to have left the Brazilian “deeply unhappy” but, despite this, he continues to give his all every time he puts on the West Ham shirt.

The news outlet also believes that West Ham will not get in the way of any potential deal between City and Paqueta, as long as their valuation is met. Knowing that he has a release clause in the region of £85 million, you would expect that the final fee would be there or thereabouts.

In 33 appearances this season, he’s managed 13 goal involvements but, as mentioned, his game goes far beyond that. With a little more discipline, he could go on to be even better under Pep Guardiola than he already is.

As heartbreaking as it will be for West Ham fans, Paqueta’s time at the London Stadium was always going to be somewhat short. A player of his ability was always going to play for one of Europe’s elites, it feels like the only hope of him staying is if the FA’s investigation drags on past the Summer.
