West Ham have no intention of signing Kalvin Phillips permanently under any circumstances, according to reports.

Since leaving Leeds United, Kalvin Phillips’ career certainly hasn’t gone the way anyone expected. His £42 million move to Manchester City was well deserved, yet he never got his chance to prove himself under Pep Guardiola.

His lack of playing time led both the club and the player to opt for a loan move, which should have given the midfielder a chance to earn a permanent move away from Manchester. Unfortunately, things have only gotten worse for him.

Disappointingly, his time at West Ham has been full of mistakes and just poor football. While some of the things the media have been saying about him are disgusting and can only be having a negative effect on his mental health, the facts are that he has been a liability.

Unsurprisingly, it seems unlikely that the Hammers would opt to sign him after his loan but, according to Football Insider, they will not make a bid even if his form improves.

Presumably, his high fee is one of the major factors in this but even for a small fee, it just would not make sense.

However, this does not mean that we shouldn’t get behind him. If he does somehow start putting in good performances, that can only benefit us and he deserves our support. We as West Ham fans pride ourselves on being a family and he is a part of that for now. Everyone has a right to criticise him, but it would be brilliant if he can go out on a high and remember his time in East London fondly.
