Lukasz Fabianski says he is still willing to give his all for West Ham despite being second choice.
Without Alphonse Areola, who knows where West Ham would be this season. The Frenchman has been simply world-class, pulling off some miraculous saves. Unfortunately though, he picked up an injury against Newcastle and, as much as he will be missed, West Ham fans will not be too concerned about his absence.
The Hammers are fortunate enough to have one of the most experienced goalkeepers in the world as their backup. Lukasz Fabianski has been incredible since joining the club, and he kept Areola out of the starting XI for the previous two seasons.
Where many would become unsettled after being demoted to cup keeper, the former Polish international says he is enjoying the new experience. I’m enjoying every game, and every opportunity that’s given to me,” Fabianski told WHUFC.com. “Things have obviously been a bit different for me this season, and I’ve had to adjust to that. I wouldn’t say there’s been much difference in terms of the playing side of things, because every game is a challenge, but I’ve had to keep myself ready and stay prepared to jump in when called upon.”
“I’m always excited to play in any game, and for the majority of this season that’s been in the cups, so I’m definitely enjoying the return of the UEFA Europa League. The Club has enjoyed some really special nights in these competitions in recent years, so it’s exciting to play my part now.”
Despite some lacklustre form in 2024, West Ham are in an excellent position to secure a fourth consecutive season of European football. While they’ve not made it easy for themselves, the 38-year-old is confident they can still achieve their goals.
“We’re battling to finish the season as strongly as possible. The start to the season was really good, and it was good to be able to replicate some of that form in the last few weeks after a bit of a dip after Christmas.”
“We’re in a strong position to qualify for Europe again this season, which would be amazing.”
“It’s been an incredible ride for the last two-and-a-half seasons,” he concluded, “and I know none of us are ready to give it up yet. Hopefully we can continue to put smiles on our fans’ faces.”
