David Moyes may walk away from West Ham at the end of the season as he is growing frustrated with a number of issues.
The large majority of outsiders can not understand why so many West Ham fans want David Moyes gone. It makes sense as things look extremely positive at face value. They’re just won a European trophy, they’re in the quarter-finals of the Europa League and they currently sit in 7th place in the league – this is an argument that a lot of supporters will give too.
However, things aren’t always that simple and, while there is no right or wrong, it is understandable why people do not think he is the right man to take them forward. In 2024, they’ve won just 2 Premier League games and the football has often been uninspiring.
Despite what seems to be the majority of fans wanting a change, a decision is yet to be made by the club regarding his future and they will review whether he is offered a new deal at the end of the campaign.
According to Claret and Hugh though, whether he is offered an extension may not be entirely relevant as he is said to be considering walking away from the London Stadium.
Obviously, it must be extremely frustrating being on the receiving end of so much criticism when, factually, you’ve led the club through one of its most successful periods. The fans’ opinions are just one part of it though, the other main reason for him potentially not signing a new contract would be the control he’d be giving up. The Scotsman would have to agree to giving up a lot of control over transfers and the overall management of the behind the scenes to technical director Tim Steidten. Understandably, this is not something he is too keen on especially because he is one of the last few “old school” managers and the idea of having the club run this way would be foreign to him.
If this is the case, then it seems the Moyes debate will be won by the “outers” – only time will tell whether a new gaffer will help West Ham push on to the next level or if they’ve been overachieving due to their current one.
