West Ham are reportedly set to battle for the signature of a sensational midfielder this Summer.
Understandably, there were massive concerns over how West Ham’s midfield would fare this season following the departure of Declan Rice. Thankfully, the answer is that it has done excellently.
Some brilliant recruitment was done ahead of the current campaign, with Edson Alvarez in particular turning out to be one of the signings of the season. Alongside him, James Ward-Prowse has been solid and Tomas Soucek has been enjoying a brilliant season.
Unfortunately, their attempt to add depth through the loan signing of Kalvin Phillips has turned out to be a colossal failure. As a result, the Hammers are likely to bring in a new midfielder and, according to Calciomercato, it could be Youssouf Fofana who they sign.
While they were heavily linked with a move for the 2022 World Cup finalist last Summer, nothing ever materialised but with Monaco only set to charge £25 million for him, it could be too good a deal to resist.
Unsurprisingly, West Ham are set to face strong competition for his signature from AC Milan, Manchester United as well as Nottingham Forest.
However, the Hammers may have a slight edge – Thilo Kehrer. The defender is currently on loan at the Ligue 1 side, but they have an option to buy. Negotiations between the two clubs may be easier because of this.
Ultimately, it will be an incredibly difficult deal to pull off but one that is certainly worth the time and effort. Let’s hope that Tim Steidten can once again work his magic to bring the Frenchman to the London Stadium.
